Electrical heater warning after fire in Mold

Posted

Three people were lucky a fire was caught early at their property in Mold, after their smoke detector raised the alarm.

Two women and a 12 year old girl were alerted to the fire after a portable electric heater had toppled over.

A 37 year old woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene after the incident triggered an asthma attack.

Two crews from Buckley and Mold were called to the property on Milford Street at 19.12hrs yesterday evening (Monday 21st January) - the incident resulted in smoke damage to the kitchen and the heater was destroyed by the fire.

Justin Evans from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Without the early warning from the smoke alarm, this incident could have been much more serious.

“At this time of year when people are using electrical heaters to keep warm, it’s important to take great care to ensure they are placed on a level surface well away from anything which could catch fire - and to unplug any electrical appliances not in use.

“If a fire should break out, you need to be able to get out of your property, so please ensure your escape route is kept clear of any obstructions so you can exit as quickly as possible - don’t leave items around which could prevent you from being able to get out.
