House fire in Shotton

Posted

Firefighters from Deeside attended a fire in property on Green Lane, Shotton on Monday 17th of August, at 2:51am.

A man received a precautionary check for smoke inhalation by ambulance staff at the scene but did not attend hospital.

The cause of the fire has now been established as deliberate ignition. Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus’, and used two hose reel water jets to extinguish the fire.

The property suffered 100% fire damage to the kitchen, hallway and a bedroom on the first floor, heavy smoke damage to other first floor rooms and moderate smoke damage to the lounge.

Stuart Millington, Senior Fire Safety Manager, said: “We urge all occupiers to ensure that they have working smoke alarms installed in their property. These people were lucky last night to escape from the property without injury. This incident again proves how vital it is for everyone to have smoke alarms installed in their homes, as they will give an early warning of a fire. They must be maintained regularly by testing the battery once a week and changing it as per manufactures instruction.

“There is no excuse for anyone in North Wales not to have smoke alarms as the Fire and Rescue Service are offering a free home safety check for everyone and will install smoke alarms where necessary. This service is completely free and I am urging everyone to request a visit by contacting our freephone number on 0800 169 1234 or e-mail cfs@nwales-fireservice.org.uk .

“If you do discover a fire you should not try and tackle it yourself. Get out of the property immediately, close all doors behind you, call for the fire and rescue service and stay out. You should never, under any circumstances re-enter the property. For further information on fire safety visit www.nwales-fireservice.org.uk .
