Welsh Fire and Rescue Services emphasise importance of preventative community safety initiatives to Government Ministers

Posted

The three Welsh Fire and Rescue Services presented Assembly Members with an engaging exhibition of their community safety initiatives at the Senedd last week.

During the event AM's were given the opportunity to speak to community safety practitioners from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, to learn more about how the three Service's innovative strategies are helping to keep Welsh communities safe. The day was also an opportunity to showcase how the funding invested by the Welsh Government for Youth Engagement, Arson Reduction, Third Sector Partnerships and Home Fire Safety is assisting the three Services in delivering against the Welsh Government's community safety agenda.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Chris Davies, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:

"Our preventative focus has evolved in recent years from the more traditional area of home safety to supporting a wide range of diverse communities in areas such as safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, youth development and engagement with ethnic minority groups. The invitation to exhibit our work at the Senedd provided a welcome opportunity to show Ministers how their investment is enabling the three fire and rescue services in Wales to successfully engage with the more vulnerable members of our communities".

Dawn Docx, Deputy Chief Fire Officer of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "Protecting our communities is our number one priority and joining with the other two fire and rescue services in Wales to showcase the work we do at the Senedd was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our wide range of proactive programmes and initiatives designed to reduce the occurrences and impacts of fire across Wales."
